Geko Direct goes bust with loss of 110 jobs
Orange b2b dealer goes into liquidation
Orange b2b dealer Geko Direct has gone into liquidation with the loss of around 110 jobs.
The company, which is based in Telford, attributes its demise to cashflow problems and the failure to find any investors.
In March, Carter told Mobile the company was struggling. He said: ‘At the moment we are in a perfect storm with a lot of factors against us.’ He said these included the economic downturn, cash-strapped customers, the costly smartphone revolution and new revenue structures.
Geko Direct has 110 staff based across its three sites in Telford, Stoke and Birmingham. The company built up a customer base of 30,000 since its launch 10 years ago.
Carter said the past two years had been tough, forcing him to cut staff numbers and close down the company’s Sunderland site.
‘We had to scale back and geographically we were a bit stretched, so we decided to close the Sunderland site,’ Carter said.

The company had been heavily criticised by a rising number of customers on numerous internet sites earlier this year who claimed the firm was failing to honour cashback agreements.
